A facilitated method that puts real LEGO bricks in people's hands to surface ideas, tension and strategy that stay hidden in a normal conversation. Everyone builds. Everyone speaks.
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a facilitated method that uses real LEGO bricks as a thinking tool. Instead of talking about a challenge in the abstract, participants build a physical model of it, then explain what they've built.
Building with your hands unlocks thinking your conscious mind can't always reach through discussion alone. It surfaces ideas, tensions and honest opinions that a normal meeting tends to bury.
Culture, leadership, engagement, collaboration, change, strategy — none of these challenges exist in isolation. They're part of interconnected systems of people, behaviours, structures, relationships and assumptions.
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® provides a unique way to make those invisible systems visible. When people build, they express ideas, concerns and connections that might never emerge in a normal conversation — and teams can literally see how different parts of a system influence one another.
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is an experiential tool that unlocks imagination and innovation. It rests on a few simple principles that consistently get better thinking out of a room than a normal discussion does.
Every LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® session is shaped around your team's real challenge. Here's what the journey usually looks like.
Everyone starts with a simple, unrelated build to get comfortable using the bricks as a way of thinking, not just a toy. Nobody is a "bad builder" by the end of the first ten minutes.
We move into the real challenge. Individual builds surface each person's perspective, then the group combines them into a shared model everyone has helped build and can stand behind.
For more complex challenges, we build a systems model that makes the connections between people, structures and behaviours visible, and helps identify where a small change could have the biggest effect.
We close by translating what's been built into concrete insights and commitments, so the session leads somewhere real rather than staying on the table.
The method is versatile enough to sit in lots of different contexts. Here are some of the most common ways we use it.
